After leaving Memphis, I took a bit of a detour to see the Cumberland falls. After camping out at the cumberland gap, I was hit up by the fine folks in Rumbletramp asking if I was in their area. Took a little tour hour detour just to spend a few days with them in North Carolina, and It was such a wonderful time. Kitchen tile haircuts, watching silly tv shows together, trading clothes, and playing music for days. I still have that dress, and I still wear it as much as I can. They told me to take the Blue Ridge Scenic Drive on my way out of town, and it was advice well followed. Three days of camping out in the woods of Appalachia started to draw me in a way that I had never felt before.
lyrics
I awoke to the sound of singing birds
The doorway to the west, and to the east I wasn’t sure
While stopping for food, I had heard from you a request that I be where you were
I replied why of course, I’ll meet you there
I began on my way to Hickory
I drove right on through Boone, that first place we did meet
Surrounded by the smokies, big and blue and kind
I took my time in getting to your door
I was greeted with some love and then some more
(Chorus)
And as I laid my head upon your couch that very night
A smile crept across my face and I slept sound and tight
A hug a kiss a cuddle and some beer for you and me
It seems to me, with friends like these, it’s hard to not just fall in love with life
I awoke to the sight of wagging tails
An offer to see movie sets and hike some lovely trails
Ambition that is stronger than the aging of feet
We sat atop the highest county seat
No government could reach us at this peak
We began to share some stories between
A bottle and some pizza and a quaint community
Your head on my shoulder, my hair on your floor
A dress that I wore for a week
A kindness so brave and so sweet
(Chorus)
And as I laid my head upon your bed that very night
A smile crept across my face and I took such delight
In being oh to close to these friends I’ve grown to love
It seems to me, the sweetest things, they come from all the best folks in your life
(Chorus)
And as I bid adieu to this ramshackle crew
We traded some t-shirts and melodies too
I started to drive to that big blue ridge line
It seems to me, the greatest things, they’re worth the journey every single time
Hi we're a couple of queerdos that write songs that are punk and folk and everywhere in between. Fuzzed out violins, fast paced guitars, singing our hearts out. Learning to wield hope like a baseball bat <3
John Underwood is a ten-piece one-man-band, and he seems to be producing new instruments from his infinite beard every time I see him. He's an incredible musician, and deserves a proper listen to <3 Flower Crown Me A Queen
Bobby's Oar is one of those projects where you notice something new on every listen. Greg's writing and playing style are infinite influences on me, and Not What I'm Looking For is just incredible. Flower Crown Me A Queen
You haven't heard of Escape The Stake yet, but you will. This is everything that got me into folk punk in the first place, plus a little more. Pay attention, this person is fucking going places! Flower Crown Me A Queen
Beautifully played and full of moving vocal performances, the Bay Area singer/songwriter's latest is a stellar work of art. Bandcamp Album of the Day Feb 3, 2023
