I decided to make it a point to get to Harpers Ferry, and pay my respects to the late and great John Brown. After eating lunch, I was sitting in my van when an older couple asked if they could take my picture. There's something about how people like the spectacle of Americana, the idea of a traveling musician that is so romantic to them. I said yes, and they did. They offered to get me food, asked if I needed anything, and at the moment, I was fine. I figured someone else who could use their kindness would be appreciative, and declined their offer. They seemed disappointed, like they wanted to be a part of my tale for even a few hours. I probably should have taken them up on at least a beer or two, but alas.

I have no idea who these people are, and I have not heard from them since.

Today a couple asked to take a picture of my face
In the van while waiting for the sun to go away
They asked if I need money, or some food, if I was safe
I replied to them, not I, and forgot to ask their names

I hope that the picture that they took turns out alright
And my countenance bequeathed brings them some kind of delight
For I don’t know who they are, and they do not know of me
But I know that I’ll live on, in the pictures that they keep
